LOT SUMMARY:

Definition: The plot summary is the “what happens’ part of the story.


The Wizard of Oz:

Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas with her aunt and uncle. She has a little black dog, Toto, who is her sole source of happiness. An evil neighbor threatens to take Toto away because he has been digging up her garden. (Mobile) (Flash)





One day the farmhouse, with Dorothy and Toto inside, is caught up in atornado and deposited in a field inMunchkin Land. (Mobile) (Flash) The falling house kills the wicked witch of the East. In order to return to Kansas, the Good Witch of the North tells Dorothy that she will have to go to the "Emerald City" and ask the Wizard of Oz to help her. (Mobile) (Flash)


On her way down the yellow brick road, Dorothy meets and begins to travel with the Scarecrow (needs a brain), (Mobile) (Flash) Tin Man (needs a heart) (Mobile) (Flash) and Lion (needs courage). (Mobile) (Flash)  All four of the travelers believe that the Wizard can solve their troubles. They arrive at the Emerald City and The Wizard agrees to help each of them....but only if they can bring him the Wicked Witch’s broom. (Mobile) (Flash)


As the friends begin their travel, the Wicked Witch sees them coming and sends her winged monkeys to capture Dorothy. (Mobile) (Flash) The Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow sneak into her castle. As they rescue Dorothy, they throw a bucket of water on the witch that causes her to melt. (Mobile) (Flash) They return to Oz to only discover that the Great and Powerful Oz was actually just a normal man. (Mobile) (Flash) Dorothy learns that she has had the power to return to Kansas herself all along. (Mobile) (Flash)


Dorothy knocks her heels together three times and wishes to return home. When she opens her eyes, Dorothy and Toto have returned to Kansas to a joyful family reunion. Dorothy looks up at her aunt and uncle and says, “There is no place like home.” (Mobile) (Flash)
